BUENOS AIRES LÍRICA,
for the splendor of Argentine opera
Buenos Aires Lírica starts it their second season. For 2004 we have prepared a program worthy of the most demanding operagoers of New York, London, Paris, Berlin...or Buenos Aires.
Buenos Aires Lírica is a novel proposition which, being different, has become the leader of the off-Colón circuit. After only one season it can be ascertained that here are the best artists and that the most attractive planning is offered as well as the most exciting productions. Not to mention strict fulfillmentt of engagements, providing complete information and the best service. We are also proud to stage our operas in the best theater for this kind of productions, the Teatro Avenida.
Firmly determined to occupy our place as the second opera in Buenos Aires, we will raise our standards even more in 2004.
We will work with single casts, which allows a better use of rehearsals and identical artistic results for each of the four subscrition series.
We will hire Argentine artists who work abroad and, on occasion, foreign artists as well.
New directors will recreate well known classics from a new, fresh viewpoint.
And we are now entering the world of German and of baroque opera.

Nothing better than a Verdi classic to open a season. Marcelo Lombardero and Myriam Toker are bound to sizzle in the leading roles of this gory medieval drama about power and boundless ambition in a staging with surprising visual effects.

One of the best loved classics and probably the greatest comic opera of all times, with a brilliant staging by a musical comedy expert whom we convinced to return to his roots With Gabriela Cipriani Zec and Omar Carrión in the leads

Brimming with unforgettable arias and scenes, the return of the greatest romantic French opera, a favorite of local audiences (and of Alfredo Kraus!), with Gustavo López Manzitti in the title role. A special treat for lovers of French opera.

Court intrigues in Imperial Rome according to the author of The Messiah and Water Music. A most beautiful work in its Southern Hemisphere premiere! The revelation of 2003, Carla Filipicic Holm leads the cast. Del Plata Baroque Orchestra, with original instruments.

Ariadne auf Naxos
November - friday 12, saturday 13, thursday 18 and sunday 21.
BAL enters the realm of German opera with this early 20th century jewel. Subtly ironic and full of refined melodies, a Top Ten in Europe, it hasn't been performed here since 1993. With Virginia Correa Dupuy and Carlos Bengolea.
